The male northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is completely red with a black face. The female has more muted colors – browns and grays overall with a tinge of red on its feathers. The two birds that I photographed for this glossy ceramic mug flew together as a couple.
Both the male and the female possess prominent raised crests and bright coral-colored beaks which is cone-shaped and strong. They frequent my bird feeder and love to munch on peanuts and sunflower seeds.
These two images were photograph in New York State. They look great as a wrap-around print on a white, glossy ceramic mug, and is available for purchase.
