Growing next to the thick bark at the base of an old tree, are groups of Glory-of-the-Snow (Scilla luciliae) bulbs. These perennial flowers first emerge in the early Spring. After that, the violet-blue and yellow flowers open. My eyes were drawn to the beautiful colors of their flowers.
These bulbs thrive in woodlands, sub-alpine meadows, and seashores, though they originate in western Turkey. They now grow throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. And apparently they made their way to upstate New York where I saw them.
This original “Spring Flowers” composition was made using watercolor paints and paper. I think that it looks great as a wrap-around print on a black, glossy ceramic mug, and is available for purchase.
